The Trenches of Paris

A rainy day in Paris began with a visit to Prelle, the legendary textile and silk factory. Prelle has been in operation since 1752 and has had such patrons as Louis XVI and the small but mighty Napoleon Bonaparte. Photos were allowed however we were asked not to post them online so I will only offer a taste of the beautiful textiles that we saw. After ogling the luxurious fabrics hand woven in gold and silver thread, we stopped for lunch before heading to Nelli Rodi for a trend presentation. Inspired, I did a little fashion forecasting of my own as trench coats in red and basic tan seemed to be dominating the streets on this rainy day. After the presentation, we headed to the Grand Palais, which is transformed every season by iconic designer Karl Lagerfeld into an exquisite venue for the Chanel fashion show. Today however, the entire space was dominated by an art installation by Anish Kapoor titled Leviathan. Words cannot describe the oddity of the giant ballon consuming the Grand Palais.

Trenches in different shades of tan, white, military green, and even purple and red protected against the rain

Polka Dots brightened up a gloomy day

As did stripes as well as coats in crazy prints

Blazers, especially with scarves and black or denim pants were a chic way to stay warm

Leather jackets in black and tan looked cool but kept the wearer nice and cozy

Some of those less daring, chose to dress in dark shades of black to match the gloomy mood but still retained the trademark fashionable Parisian esthetic

Tan accents looked great with blue and black

Tights under shorts warmed up a typical summer look

Men in gray looked very put together

Not so subtle accents of purple created interesting looks
